505 AXPQ20 PGUM 200051 TWDPQ Tropical Weather Discussion National Weather Service Tiyan GU 1051 AM ChST Fri Jun 20 2025 Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... There are a few trade-wind troughs across the region. The first is located northwest of Yap from 10N134E to 17N137E. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are seen along this trough. The next trough is west of Chuuk near Satawal, or 2N147E to 8N150E. This trough is interacting with the ITCZ to produce numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms. The final trade-wind trough is located near Majuro, or from 6N169E to 10N171E. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are seen on the northeast side of the trough. All the trade-wind troughs will generally move westward over the coming days. TUTT... The TUTT enters our region at 24N180 and extends west-southwestward into a TUTT Cell located at 21N151E. From there, the TUTT extends westward into a TUTT cell near 20N135E and then westward until it exits the region at 19N130E. Widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms are seen where the TUTT interacts with a surface circulation and the TUTT cell near 21N151E. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are seen near the TUTT cell near 20N135E. The TUTT is expected to be bisected by an upper ridge over the next couple of days with the western half remaining near stationary and the eastern half strengthening as it moves eastward. OTHER SYSTEMS... There is a weak surface circulation located on the edge of our region just east of Iwo_To or 25N144E. Convergence south of this low is interacting with the TUTT to produce numerous to widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms across the far northern CNMI. This weak circulation is forecasted to redevelop further south, where it may become a tropical disturbance. ...ITCZ... The ITCZ remains fragmented with the first entrance into our region at 3N180 and extends west-northwestward to 9N172E. Numerous showers are seen near the equator with scattered showers further northwest where the ITCZ is interacting with a trade-wind trough. The ITCZ re- enters the region at EQ160E and extends to nearly 10N142E. Numerous to widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms are seen along the ITCZ where it is interacting with a trade-wind trough near Satawal. The ITCZ is expected to fragment into trade-wind troughs over western Micronesia while it expands over eastern Micronesia the next couple of days. $$ Williams
